Convincing Yourself

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. Thomas Merton

As someone who has recently delved into artistic expression, “I am an artist” is a powerful statement for me. I definitely think we are our own worst critic. No matter how many people tell me my art is “good” I still doubt that it is “good enough.” What is good enough when it comes to art though?  I don’t paint for my picture to be good enough.  I paint to create a space for myself where I can turn off the internal, and sometimes external, voices that tell me I am not adequate.  I created this page so that even if I still don’t feel like an artist, I am going to keep telling myself I am until I believe it.
